Jundiaí immunized only 71% of priority groups against influenza; children and pregnant women are below the target

Due to poor adherence to the 2018 vaccination campaign, the Ministry of Health issued a warning about increased child mortality from influenza. From January to June, there were 44 deaths of children under five due to complications of the disease. At the same time last year, the number of deaths was 14. In Jundiaí, there are no cases of death confirmed by severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) this year. But membership in the vaccine is also lower than the target set by the ministry. The Health Promotion Management Unit of Jundiaí informs that the city has immunized up to June 20, 75,952 people, or 71.6% of the priority groups. But some groups, such as children and pregnant women, are well below the target.

Also below expectations, only 2,509 pregnant women were vaccinated during the first five years of the study, with a total of 14,140 children under 5 years of age, totaling 64.20%. vaccinated, corresponding to 57.41% of this population. Of the health workers, 12,138 professionals (114.54%), 951 postpartum women (132.45%) and 46,214 elderly people (91.82%) were vaccinated. Since June 25, the unit has also started vaccinating two other groups. In addition to children under five, health workers, pregnant women, postpartum women, the elderly, teachers and the chronically ill, adults aged 50-59 and children aged 5 to 9 years can also be vaccinated. Vaccines are available in all basic health units and will continue until the end of the stock.
