The Labor Court reiterated the decision of the publisher Abril to reinstate within 30 days all employees dismissed by the company. The decision is December 3rd.
The decision had already been taken by Labor Judge Eduardo Matiota, of the 61st Labor Court of São Paulo, in September, following a request from the MPT's Public Prosecutor's Office (Ministry of Public Work) . The Union of Journalists participates in the process.
After the sentence, the publisher Abril filed a seizure.
In his response, the magistrate confirmed the measure and increased the number of employees to rehire for fired persons from July 2017 – the previous decision provided for the rehiring of fired persons as of December 2017.
The company, responsible for the publishing of magazines such as Veja, Exame, Claudia, among others, sought judicial recovery in August.
In his recovery plan, which Folha had access to, the group proposed to its creditors to pay only 8% of their debt up to 18 years if the offer ends up to be accepted, this will result in a default of 92% of the debts.
The main lenders of Grupo Abril are Itaú, Bradesco and Santander. The banks acquired from the company bonds (debt securities) worth nearly R1 billion.
Grupo Abril's working debts, which include debts owed to journalists, graphic artists, administrative staff and other professionals, amount to about 90 million rand, or only 5.6% of the total. The management of the company has proposed different conditions for the payment of part of this debt.
The company proposes to fully pay off the manpower debts of up to 250 minimum wages per person, equivalent to R $ 238.5 thousand. The debt would be paid more than 12 months after the approval of the recovery plan.
