The project is carried out in partnership with the health departments of the municipality (Semusa) and the State (Sesau). In addition to exams, the goal is to raise awareness of the importance of prevention, diagnosis and treatment of leprosy.
In Porto Velho, the chariot pbades through the socialist districts, Castanheiras and on the Three Marias Square. Local health units will be present in the morning and in the afternoon.
Semusa, also pointed out that it is necessary for the population to present the SUS card for attendance.
In total, the campaign will cover 18 municipalities of the state. Only in the first half of the year, there were more than 200 diagnoses of leprosy. Thanks to this number, Rondônia is the sixth state of the country with the largest number of cases. Last year, there were only 56 diagnoses in Porto Velho.
According to the Health Surveillance of Rondônia, leprosy is a chronic and infectious disease that evolves slowly and silently.
Symptoms include a tingling sensation, numbness in the extremities of the body, the appearance of white or red patches and a decrease in muscle strength.
Transmission of leprosy is by contact with other people who have already contracted the disease but have not treated it. However, the disease has a cure.
The treatment of leprosy is free and is carried out in health facilities, with an indication of up to three drugs.
