LG confirmed Thursday that its next high end, the LG G8 ThinQ, should be released with a front camera 3D ToF . According to the South Korean, the sensor is manufactured by the German company Infineon and should enhance the security of facial recognition of the device.

However, the company declined to provide additional details about other utilities for this sensor. In addition, LG does not specify whether the G8 ThinQ will also bring the same equipment to the rear .

The Infineon REAL3 image sensor will play a key role in the front camera of the upcoming LG G8 ThinQ, which will be unveiled in Barcelona at the Mobile World Congress 2019

In a press release, LG also pointed out the partnership with the German company and commented on the importance of including this sensor 3D ToF on the front of the ThinQ G8.

While other 3D technologies use complex algorithms to calculate the distance of an object for the purpose of the camera, the TOF image sensor chip provides more measurements accurate capturing infrared light when it is reflected. As a result, TOF technology is faster and more efficient with ambient light, reducing workload and power consumption.

The higher accuracy of object distance calculation can obviously be exploited to improve the reliability of facial recognition operations, thus reducing interference from external light sources.

The company has not yet confirmed the specifications of its new top of the 2019 page. Whatever the case may be, rumors say that it must have the processor Snapdragon 855 and a powerful technical file:

It is worth mentioning that the LG G8 ThinQ will be released at the MWC 2019 starting February 25th. The South Korean company could also present other important news in the smartphone market.
