Luiz Antônio Bonat: who is the judge who takes the jet of lava | Paraná

Born in the capital of Paraná, he obtained his law degree in 1979 from the Curitiba Faculty of Law. The judge is a specialist in public law of the Federal University of Paraná (UFPR).

A year before graduation, he began working as a justice server, performing the duties of auxiliary, forensic technician and director of the secretariat.

25 years ago, Bonat badumed the 1st Federal Court of Foz do Iguaçu, in western Paraná. He also worked at the 3rd Federal Criminal Court of Curitiba and the 1st Federal Court of Criciúma (SC).

At the 13th Federal Court of Paraná, where Lava Jato's legal proceedings are being processed, Bonat will leave the 21st Federal Court, also in Curitiba – specializing in social security matters.

The judge has previously worked at the Federal District Court 4 (TRF-4) at various points in his career in the place of judges.

He is co-author of the book "Import and Export in Brazilian Law", which deals with crimes related to foreign trade.

In an institutional video, Bonat came to clbadify federal justice in the family. He is regarded by his colleagues as a discreet judge.

Bonat informed, on the advice of the Federal Justice, that he had no intention of giving interviews or expressing opinions on questions relating to the judiciary.

When he performs the duties of federal judge in Santa Catarina, Bonat pronounces a sentence considered innovative until that date. He sentenced a company for an environmental crime in 2002.

The corporation was found guilty of unlawfully removing sand, destroying a native forest and fined $ 10,000 – to return to environmental programs.

The director of the company was sentenced to seven months' imprisonment, replaced by provision of services and fine.

The sentence has been confirmed in higher instances. With that, jurisprudence has been established in the subject.

Twenty-five candidates registered to take the place left by Sergio Moro. Bonat was the eldest of the candidates.

Only judges from the 4th region, covering the south of the country, could participate in the selection. Bonat's name was judged by TRF-4's board of directors.

The new judge will be charged with trying the proceedings of Lava Jato at first instance, who are currently before Judge Gabriela Hardt. Because it's a substitute, it can not definitely badume.
