At a solemn sitting, the 513 deputies elected and re-elected in October take office today (1st) in the Hemicycle, at 10 am (Brasilia time), at the sitting plenary session of Ulysses Guimarães. Every four years, the ritual is repeated: the deputies answer the individual call and take an oath.
The inauguration will be led by MP Rodrigo Maia (DEM-RJ). According to the Rules of Procedure, it is up to the President of the previous legislature, if he is re-elected, to direct the session.
In the oath, the text says that every federal deputy must commit to "uphold, defend and respect the Constitution, respect the laws, promote the general good of the Brazilian people, support the union, l & rsquo; Integrity and independence of Brazil ". [19659004] The new legislature is marked by one of the highest renewal rates since the new democratization. In the Senate, of the 54 seats in the running, 46 will be occupied by new names, a renewal of more than 87%. In the House, the current percentage of renewal has been exceeded only twice since 1990, in the election of that year, while the index was 62%, then in 1994 when the renewal was 54%. 243 "new" deputies (first term); 270 others have already joined the House in other legislatures.
The PSL is the party that has won the largest number of new MPs in the 2019-2023 legislature: 47 members from its 52 members. The PRB (18 parliamentarians) was in second place, followed by the PSB (16), the PT (15), the PSD (14), the PP and the PDT (12 each) and the DEM (10). The other parties elected less than ten new MPs.
The PT is the party that has most re-elected MPs. Of the 56 elected by the Legend in 2018, 40 were re-elected, followed by the MDB (25 reelected), PP (23), PR (22), PSD (20), DEM (19), PSDB. PDT (14) and PRB (11). The other legends re-elected less than ten deputies.
The percentage is higher than that achieved in the 2014 elections, or 10% (51 members), a record recorded up to then, according to the available data of the House
