Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa and opposition leader Nelson Chamisa go to the polls in the first presidential election following the resignation of Robert Mugabe who, in November 2017, was forced to resign at after a coup d'etat.
Emmanuel Mnangagwa, 75, heads the Zimbabwe African Patriotic Front (ZANU-PF) Party and came to power with the support of the army in November 2017.
Nelson Chamisa, leader of the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC-T) is the main opponent of Mnangagwa.
The 40-year-old politician succeeded Morgan Tsvangirai, who died in February from a prolonged illness.
In this presidential election, Ambrose Mutinhiri of the National Patriotic Front, Thokozani Khupe, Deputy Prime Minister of Zimbabwe from February 2009 to August 2013, and leader of the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC-T), Noah Manyika of Party Building the Zimbabwean Alliance, Dumiso Dabengwa, Leader of the African Union of Zimbabwe (ZAPU), Elton Mangoma of the Democratic Coalition (CODE), Joice Mujuru of the Arco Coalition Party-
The President is elected by an absolute majority of votes by means of a two-round system for a five-year term
