Nancy Grace Roman First woman to hold a leadership position at NASA, dies on December 25, 2018 from an illness. She was 93 years old.
Many consider astronomy to be the "mother" of the Hubble telescope for the efforts it deploys for the concept and for raising funds for construction. Although she retired in 1979, 11 years before the launch of the telescope, her contributions were critical to the project.
In addition, Nancy Grace Roman participated in satellite missions on the Earth map and contributed to other observatories in orbit. She also fought for more women to enter the field of science and math after her resistance when she became an astronomer.
Recently, she was one of the LEGO laureates within a group celebrating women who have contributed to NASA's technological advances.
