New blow on WhatsApp's 2018 retrospective, but data theft

[ad_1]

A new scam on WhatsApp promises a "2018 retrospective" with "old photos, status and conversations" exchanged with friends this year. In fact, according to dfndr lab, PSafe, the link sent by message leads the user of the application to advertising pages or data theft. More than 339,000 people were killed in just 16 hours.

In the message created by the criminals, it is promised that the user will remember the "old photos, information and conversations" exchanged with friends of WhatsApp in 2018. "Cybercriminals often use relevant dates to create ways to deceive users, like the World Cup, elections, Black Friday and now with the end of the year, "says Emilio Simoni, Director of the PSAFE Cybersecurity Lab.

According to dfndr lab, the goal of the message is to generate profits through online advertising. However, in some cases, the shot redirects the user to pages of fake promotions that solicit personal data. So beware of the links you receive via WhatsApp and always check before sharing any personal information.

It should be noted that WhatsApp does not offer any official tools for retrospectives and does not support third parties. Therefore, it is highly recommended to avoid programs that can read or access your messages in exchange for a benefit. After all, these applications can be malware behind financial or personal data.
