BRASÍLIA – The Federal Police has opened an investigation to investigate the future government minister Bolsonaro Paulo Guedes for alleged crimes committed in connection with pension fund transactions. The investigations began a month ago, at the request of the Federal Public Prosecutor (MPF), who also investigated the case. The police sees in the transactions of about $ 1 billion made by Guedes.
The starting point of the investigation is a report of the National Superintendency of Previdência Complementar (Previc), a pension fund regulator, which raised suspicions about the transactions badyzed.
The documents have already been badyzed by the police, who is struggling to deepen the investigation. Police complain about the lack of clarity in the definition of alleged crimes. Guedes will be investigated for fraudulent management, among other alleged irregularities.
The MPF and the FP are investigating whether Guedes used pension fund money improperly, leaving millions of losses to retirees of state-owned companies. To carry out the transactions, the company of Paulo Guedes, who manages the financial investments, would have charged commissions considered as "abusive".
One of the investigations reveals suspicions of irresponsible or fraudulent management within the FE in Education, the Equity Investment Fund (FIP) managed by a Guedes company of the same name, which has mobilized pension fund resources of state employees in the private education sector.
Another survey examines whether the same allegedly irregular methods were used to make a profit from another investment fund managed by the economist, FIP Brasil of Governança Participativa. After receiving the million-dollar contribution from state pension funds, the Guedes-managed FIP invested $ 112.5 million in an infrastructure group, Enesa. It is at this stage of the transaction that, according to the MPF, fraud may have occurred.
Guedes denies problem
Lawyers Ticiano Figueiredo and Pedro Ivo Velloso, responsible for the defense of the future Minister of the Economy, denied that Guedes committed any irregularities.
"The defense of Paulo Guedes reaffirms the fluidity of all operations of the fund (Educational BR), which, moreover, provided profits to unitholders, including pension funds," said lawyers.
The two men also said that they expect the PF investigation to investigate what they call "inconsistencies" in the Previc report.
For its part, Previc argued on Friday that the report on which PF's investigation was based was based on the preliminary badysis requested by the MPF and pointed out that the above-mentioned investments had not yet been subject to control. municipality and therefore lacks a conclusive merit badessment. According to Previc, the documentation relating to the case is confidential.
