The first Pokémon Go safari zone in Latin America takes place this weekend (January 25-27) in Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul. Rare Pokemon and brilliant, we were able to chat with Omar Telléz vice president of development of Niantic

. Pokémon Go has completed two years of existence at the end of 2018, but continues to grow. The commitment of the Latin American players was one of the reasons and it was encouraging in the next Safari Zone for our country. According to Omar:

The first thing that happened is that we have seen very strong growth in Latin America. Today, Latin America is the fastest growing market in the world. And we still had no team here in Latin America. So we first recruited a team in São Paulo, and then it became obvious that we had to organize an event. We are a company known for organizing events so that people can explore, exercise and really socialize.

Porto Alegre was the place chosen for the Safari zone after Niantic's evaluation of several Brazilian cities. The infrastructure of Rio Guaíba, the partnership with the city council and even the strong presence of some influencers were the decisive factor in this regard. According to Omar:

Here, in Porto Alegre, more than other Brazilian cities, we have influencers who are more organizers, who encourage people to play. It is obvious that the installed base of players in Rio and São Paulo is bigger, but here we see more organized groups, playing more as a team and not individualists.

Although it is the first event of its kind in Brazil, more than 125,000 people registered only in the first three days of registration. However, only 25,000 tickets were distributed. According to Omar, the decision was based on the limits of the connection, but at the next event, the company hopes to accommodate even more people.

The success of this first event gives the interest to create a new safari zone in Brazil. . However, Porto Alegre should again become the headquarters because the company thinks that it is possible to further improve an event taking into account all that they have learned.

Good news for players who live in other countries of Latin America. It is also planned to bring the Safari Zone to Mexico as well.

What the future holds for Pokémon Go

Pokémon Go was developed in 2018 with the arrival of exchanges and fights between coaches. In 2019, we expect to implement even more generations and more features, especially related to augmented reality.

Frequent demand from players in the cities of the interior is also taken into account. According to Omar:

Another feature we continue to improve is that you offer PokéStops. This is an area in which, especially here in Brazil, we still have to work better because there are a lot of rural areas here and we also want them to play.

Already about the arrival of second and third generation monkeys that are not yet available In the game, like Smeargle and Kecleon, Omar has only stated that the key word in this case is simply "patience" .

There is nothing left to wait.

Pokémon GO is available free for iOS and Android
