The homicide police of the capital badyzes the images of a security camera that, according to relatives of Leonardo Nascimento dos Santos, 26, proves their innocence. Last Wednesday, he was arrested for the murder of a 22-year-old psychologist, Matheus Lessa, in a grocery store in Barra de Guaratiba. According to the suspect's family, who was recognized by the victim's mother, videos show it elsewhere at the time of the crime.
Matheus was shot and killed while protecting his mother, Carla Lessa. He was working at his parents' grocery store when a couple entered the facility and announced a robbery. Unhappy with the little money they found in a box, the thugs threatened to shoot Carla. Matheus reacted and was shot in the back of the neck standing between her and the criminals.

Leonardo was recognized by photographs. Carla and three other witnesses to the murder named him as one of the bad guys and said he was wearing a white shirt.
The accused's father, Jorge Benjamin, expressed his solidarity with the Matheus family, but told "TV Globo TV" that Leonardo was innocent:

The civilian police pointed out that Leonardo had been recognized by four witnesses and that the arrest of the red hands had been transformed into a security measure by the courts.
