Foreign Minister Ernesto Araújo said Wednesday that the president of the Brazilian Agency for Export and Investment Promotion (APEX), Alex Carreiro, had resigned.
Apex is the main agency responsible for promoting Brazilian products and services abroad and attracting foreign investment in strategic sectors of the Brazilian economy.
According to Araújo, the name of Ambbadador Mario Vilalva as a replacement for Carreiro has already been attributed to President Jair Bolsonaro.
"Mr. Alex Carreiro asked me to close his position as President of APEX, and I thank him for his important contribution to the transition and the beginning of his term. to PR Bolsonaro the name of Ambbadador Mario Vilalva, strong promotion of exports, to the president of APEX, "wrote Araujo on Twitter.
Carreiro was appointed to this post on the last day, but Ernesto Araújo did not explain the reasons for his departure.
According to the newspaper "O Globo", Carreiro could not remain in office if the status of the agency was changed, because he did not speak English and had no experience of the public sector in the field of trade.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mario Vilalva graduated in law from the University of Brasilia (UnB) and joined the diplomatic career in 1976.
Vilalva for example served in the embbadies of Brazil to Washington (United States), Pretoria (South Africa) and Rome (Italy), in addition to having previously been ambbadador of Brazil to Santiago (Chile) and Lisbon (Portugal).
