Of the 36 localities studied, the infestation exceeded 20%

Campo Mourão has a general index of infestation of the mosquito Aedes aegypti of 11.40%, which transmits dengue fever, zika virus, chikungunya and yellow fever. The high rate is considered alarming because what is acceptable by the Ministry of Health is less than 1%. The data was published Monday (14) by the Dengue Committee of the Municipal Health Secretariat, based on the first survey of the index (CRI) conducted last year.

last year, in November, the index was already high: 5.2%. This time, of the 36 localities surveyed, the infestation exceeded the 20% mark in six of them. In only three locations (center, Paula Walter's Milton and the Flora Garden area), no outbreaks have been detected.

Despite the high risk index, the coordinator of the steering committee, Carlos Bezerra, recalls that two and a half years ago, Campo Mourão had not recorded any cases of illness caused by the mosquito. "Our recommendation is that the population do their part to eliminate puddles of stagnant water, because if a case occurs, the risk of an epidemic is very high," he warns.
