Heavy rains on the coast of the island of Java in the Indonesian Sunda Strait make it difficult to search for and rescue the 57 people who disappeared after the tsunami on Saturday (22).
Emergency teams travel about 100 km from the coast in search of people trapped in the rubble of the tsunami, whose latest official toll is 373 dead and more than 1,450 wounded.
The worst-hit district is Pandeglang, in northwestern Java, where 267 people died, 1,143 were wounded and 38 were missing.
With the help of sniffer dogs and heavy machinery, the soldiers scrape all the debris of iron and wood formed by waves 2 to 3 meters high and striking the region.
In a video posted on social networks, we see how a rescue group manages to revive a five-year-old child after more than 12 hours of car stuck in one of Carita Beach's cleaned vehicles.
Monday (24), two days after the tsunami, rescuers reached the city of Sumur, where 36 people were killed and 476 wounded.
In the northern part of the strait, the damage is significant. In Lampung province, South Sumatra, at least 75 people have died and 22 are missing.
