"Rome" was nominated for the best film at the 2019 Oscars, according to presenters Kumail Nanjiani and Tracee Ellis Ross on Tuesday (22). The production directed by Alfonso Cuarón has therefore become the first production of Netflix in competition in the main category.
In total, Mexican production won the nominations at the price of the Academy of Arts and Cinematographic Sciences, which will unveil its laureates at a ceremony on February 24th.
In addition to the best film, "Roma" is also mentioned in the best foreign film category. The two categories have never mixed in the history of the Oscars: with "Z" (1969), "The Emigrants" (1971), "Life Is Beautiful" (1997), "The Tiger and the Dragon") and "Amor" (2012).
It is from elsewhere with "The Tiger and the Dragon" that "Rome" divides a very distinct record: both with 10 nominations in their respective years;
"Roma" has also been nominated for other Oscar nominations as Best Actress (for newcomer Yalitza Aparicio), Best Actress in a Supporting Role (Marina of Tavira) and
Morning of Netflix's triumph is further enriched with memories of "The Ballad of Buster Scruggs", the original production of the streaming service in partnership with famous directors Joel and Ethan Cohen in categories such as Best Original Song ("When a Cowboy treats his spurs for wings ") and best-selling costumes
streaming also has reasons to celebrate with the list of nominees for the 2019 Oscar, however. Hulu, Netflix's competitor in the industry, has been nominated for his documentary "Minding the Gap", which follows the maturation of a group of skateboarding friends.
