Snapdragon 632, 439 and 429 are the new Qualcomm intermediate processors

Qualcomm chose this week to upgrade its processor liners to mid-range smartphones. The new models are the Snapdragon 632, 439 and 429 chips. They all have the usual promise of more overall performance, optimized power consumption compared to previous models and artificial intelligence capabilities.

Snapdragon chip from Qualcomm

The Snapdragon 632 is the most advanced, as the numbering suggests. The chip is essentially an evolution of the Snapdragon 630. Its specifications include FinFET manufacturing technology 14 nanometers, eight Kryo 250 cores running at 1.8 GHz (four cores Cortex-A73 high performance plus four Cortex-A53), the GPU Adreno Modems 506 and LTE Snapdragon X9.

With these features, the Snapdragon 632 allows the smartphone to have two rear cameras up to 13 megapixels or a 24 megapixel camera, and can record videos at 4K and 30 frames per second. FHD + displays are also supported, that is, with full HD resolution and 18: 9 aspect ratio.

The Snapdragon 439 features 12 nanometer manufacturing, eight 1.95 GHz Cortex-A53 cores, an Adreno 505 GPU, and an LTE Snapdragon X6 modem. This set supports two 8 megapixel or one 21 megapixel cameras, records videos in 1080p and 30 frames per second, and also allows the use of FHD + screens.

The Snapdragon 429 is similar to the 439 but features four 1.95 GHz Cortex-A53 cores and the Adreno 504 GPU. Among the features supported here are HD + (HD resolution plus 18: 9) and two 8 megapixels or a 16-megapixel camera.

According to Qualcomm, Snapdragon 632 is up to 40% faster than Snapdragon 626 for some tasks. The Snapdragon 439 and 429 chips are up to 25% more agile than the Snapdragon 430 and 425 processors, respectively.

The first devices based on new chips should come out in the second half.

Snapdragon Wear 2500

Smartphone processors are not the only recent news from Qualcomm. The company also announced the Snapdragon Wear 2500, a smartwatch processor designed for kids.

About a third smaller than other chips for smart watches and others, the Snapdragon Wear 2500 is compatible with LTE, camera up to 5 megapixel, tracking location and various sensors.

Interestingly, the chip does not support Wear OS (formerly, Android Wear), but works with a simplified version of Android developed by Qualcomm itself. Caller Android for Kids, this system has no notifications and application store, so it should be provided only with preinstalled applications.

Huawei is among the manufacturers who already receive the chip.
