The Treasury Department of the State of São Paulo informed the owners of 324,677 vehicles in indebtedness of the Motor Vehicle Property Tax (IPVA). The debts are related to the 2018 exercise of the vehicles with the end plates 1 and 2 and also the remainders of the years 2013 to 2017. The relationship was published in the Official Journal of the State of that Wednesday (27).

The Treasury will send to the tax domicile of each owner a release of the IPVA debits. The notice includes the identification of the vehicle, the amounts of the tax, the fine (20% of the amount due) and interest due for late payment, as well as guidelines for the payment or the presentation of the defense.

The batch of notifications includes 324,791 debits (each vehicle can have a debit over several years) for a total of 356,049,500.93 reais.

Exercise Number of flows Value (R $)
2018 324,494 355,724,646.15
2017 144 131,299.92
2016 59 88214.46
2015 40 59449.15
2014 29 25,873.87
2013 25 20017.38

The taxpayer who receives the debt declaration has 30 days to pay the debt or to defend himself. The notice itself provides the necessary guidance for the regularization of the situation, including the location of the tax office closest to the address of the vehicle owner.

Payment can be made via the Internet or at the authorized banking network branches, using the self-service service or at the cash register, simply by indicating the Renavam number of the vehicle and the year of the IPVA levy to be withdrawn.

The owner who does not debited or does not present a defense within the time limit will have his name inscribed in the active debt of the State of São Paulo (transfer of the debt administration to the General Prosecutor's Office, which can initiate the judicial enforcement proceedings, with an increase of 20% to 40%, in addition to the impact of legal fees).

The taxpayer must regularize the pending case with the Treasury to avoid including his name in the informal register of unreturned credits of state agencies and entities (State CADIN), which will take place 90 days after the date of release of the IPVA debits.
