Workers at the São José dos Campos (SP) GM plant approved Thursday (7) a proposal from the company that provides for a wage freeze in 2019 and a 60% replacement of the company. Inflation in 2020. According to the union.
The builder's proposal for San Jose does not provide for any readjustment of wages in 2019. By 2020, GM proposes to replace 60% of inflation in 12 months measured by the INPC (Index consumer price) – in both cases, workers would suffer a real loss of income. The reset of the total inflation would only come back in 2021.
To remedy the lack of adjustment in 2019, workers will benefit from a wage premium of R $ 2,500. By 2020, already with the partial replacement of inflation, the payment will fall to R $ 1.5 million. No compensation is paid in 2021.
The proposal was made after six rounds of negotiations with the metalworkers' union of the city. According to the union, the union has gathered four thousand people.
GM is still negotiating with unions in other cities in the group where car manufacturing plants are located in São Caetano do Sul. Sul (SP) and Gravataí (RS). The São José factory was however the most delicate.
The meeting began around 3 pm and gathered about 4,000 workers from both factory teams, with the approval of the vast majority. The vote was organized by the São José dos Campos Metalworkers' Union, affiliated with CSP-Conlutas, which negotiated for six weeks with GM during six meetings.
