Suspect of 8 murders, a fugitive prisoner in BA is arrested at the border with Paraguay with documents of brother | Bahia

A fugitive from Nilton Gonçalves prison in the city of Vitória da Conquista, southwest of Bahia, was arrested Friday (29) in the municipality of Ponta Porã, in Mato Grosso do Sul, at the border Paraguay.

According to information from the Secretariat of Public Security of Bahia (SSP-BA), the man, identified as Caio Vinícius Fogaça das Neves, is suspected of at least eight homicides in the city of Guanambi, southwest of Bahia. The crimes would be linked to drug trafficking in the region.

Caio Vinícius had fled the prison at the end of last year and was wanted by the police, who had spotted him in the other state where he had moved. According to the SSP, even outside of Bahia, the suspect even ordered murders in the state.

According to SSP, at the time of arrest, the man filed papers on behalf of his brother to try to escape, but was discovered. In addition to the Bahia police, police officers from Mato Grosso do Sul also participated in the action. Caio will be transferred to Bahia in the coming days.
