Temer's decision to extradite Battisti is "right", says Moro | Politics

Temer signed the decree last week, the day after Minister Luiz Fux of the Federal Supreme Court, who had ordered the arrest of Battisti following a request from Interpol.

Battisti is on the run and the federal police have twice tried to capture the Italian Monday in São Paulo. The PF was in addresses informed by anonymous denunciations as possible hiding places.

"In my opinion, the asylum granted to him [Battisti] was an asylum with partisan motives, and at an appropriate time it was revised," said the future minister.

"International judicial cooperation can not be dealt with politico-partisan criteria, the decision is correct, but unfortunately this person is outlawed," he added.

• Moro made the remarks during a press conference at the headquarters of the transitional government during which he announced the appointment of the new National Secretary for Justice.

Battisti's defense has already appealed to the Supreme, asking Fux to reconsider the decision or bring the case to the plenary, composed of the ten other ministers of the court. Luiz Fux has not decided on the request yet.

Until then responsible for the Lava Jato operation, Sergio Moro ceased to be a judge to join the Jair Bolsonaro government.

The future minister says himself an admirer of Operation Clean Hands, who investigated a bribery scheme involving politicians in Italy.

"Countries must cooperate to fight crime, and Mr. Cesar Battisti has been found guilty of homicide in Italy." Italy is a country with a strong and independent judiciary and it's not up to Brazil to badess the merits of conviction, "Moro said.
