At least three people have died and at least 79 are missing after the collapse of a nine-story building located in the city of Magnitogorsk in Chelyabinsk, Russia.
It is suspected that a gas explosion, occurring around 6 am on Monday (31) – or 23 hours in Brasilia – affected the structure of the building.
According to the Minister of Emergency Situations, Yevgeny Zinichev, four people were saved alive.
In all, more than a thousand people live there. There is still no information on the number of people in the building when seven of the nine floors collapsed.
Victims "may be under rubble, relatives or on vacation," Chelyabinsk deputy governor Oleg Klimov told reporters.
The collapse occurred at a time when many people were sleeping and where the number of victims may still increase.
President Vladimir Putin ordered Russian Minister of Health Veronika Skvortsova and Emergency Situations Minister Yevgeny Zinichev to travel to Magnitogorsk to coordinate relief operations.
