RIO – Security cameras have surprised the act of vandalism committed by a hooded man on a graffiti of the face of the municipal councilor Marielle Franco and the biopharmaceutical Maria da Penha, which gives its name to the law n 11,340 on the defense of women. When the street is empty, the vandal crosses and turns his back on the camera to begin painting the face of the two paintings in black.
The graffiti was only seen on Tuesday by the resident of the house with the paintings. Retired Euclides Soares said he noticed vandalism by chance, crossing the street and looking at the painting – a rare act, he said.

The painting is part of a collection of graffiti from the Nami Museum, with open air paintings in the community, organized by the graffiti artist Panmela Castro, chairman of the Nami Network. She recalls that vandalism was committed on December 10, Human Rights Day.
Anyone who did this knew that our workshop would be on vacation and that we would be slow to notice it.
A resident who pbaded by and asked not to be identified lamented the vandalism.
– It's symbolic. They want to erase the memory of the faces of Marielle and Maria da Penha. The graffiti wants to send a message, "he commented.
Solidarity Response
The painting will be redone by the widow of the old woman, Monica Benfica, December 28. In the act, with the time still undefined, will be available molds of the drawing so that the painting can be made by the city, in
as during the distribution of thousand plaques bearing the name of Marielle Franco after the collapse of the symbolic signage of the newly elected deputies, Daniel Silveira, federal, and Rodrigo Amorim

– Let us face the acts of barbarity and vandalism by demonstrations of solidarity and affection. It's a guarantee of memory preservation – comments Monica.
According to Panmela, the idea is to show that "gratuitous violence" will get a multiplied response.
"They want to silence us and they will not be able to," said the artist.
