Soyuz Russian capsule coupled with the International Space Station
The Soyuz capsule hole was drilled from the inside, according to a Russian cosmonaut.
In August, the crew of the International Space Station was surprised to learn a leak causing a slight loss of atmospheric pressure aboard the station. There are mysteries that are never debunked, but as far as the little hole in the Soyuz capsule is concerned, everything seems to be a matter of time.
The scientists immediately closed the hole, but their cause remains a mystery until then. However, according to the Russian cosmonaut Sergey Prokopyev the small crack was pierced from inside the capsule.
The crew of the Expedition 57 conducted an "unprecedented walk in space" on December 11 to determine the cause of the small hole in the Soyuz. After collecting several samples from the outside of the ship, Sergey Prokopyev and Oleg Kononenko concluded that the hole was drilled from inside which raises even more questions.
Initially attributed to a micrometeorite, the crack was quickly determined as a result of a perforation. Even though it did not pose a threat to the ship or crew, it caused a slight drop in atmospheric pressure .

The results of the badysis of Kononenko and Prokopyev have been revealed as soon as they returned to Earth. The hole presented no threat during the return because the section in which it appeared had been rejected before its return in the terrestrial atmosphere.
Rumors surfaced that the hole was deliberately pierced when the capsule was made or when it was in orbit. In turn, these rumors generated even more serious rumors that the crack could have been part of an attempted sabotage.
However, although Prokopyev concluded that the hole was made from within, rejected the badumption that it was deliberately drilled by an astronaut
Nevertheless, NASA and the Russian authorities remain convinced that the cause of the hole remains unknown and must be the subject of a thorough investigation. As Prokopyev summarized, "it is up to the investigating bodies to judge when this hole was dug".
