Professor Sérgio Roberto Ferreira, 60, director of the campus of Cornélio Procópio da Uenp (State University of Northern Paraná), was killed on Thursday night (20) in the institution.
Ferreira, who had been working at the university since 1990, was allegedly badaulted inside the campus, apparently by a teacher who was reportedly arrested – his name was not revealed.
According to the police, the director's family stated that he had left the house after the teacher had made contact with him for an appointment. Ferreira was found lying in the meeting room around 7 pm with head injuries. He was saved by the fire department of Santa Casa, where he died.
Police found the suspect teacher in Teodoro Sampaio, a municipality located in the interior of São Paulo's land, 220 km from the city of Paraná. According to the police, he confessed to the murder and found at home a hatchet that could have been used in the crime.
Ferreira, who was in his second term as campus director Cornélio Procópio, had been a lecturer in the course of the administration course since 1990. He also acted as coordinator and head of department.
The Uenp decreed an official mourning of three days and reportedly declared with "immense regret" to have announced the death of the director. "Uenp offers his condolences to the family and friends of the teacher," says the university release. The director's body will be veiled in the cemetery of Cornelio Procópio, where he will be buried at 5 pm on Friday.
