SÃO PAULO – Australian researchers have developed an experimental test that, if successful in future studies, could be the first to easily detect any type of cancer described by Medicina .
The study, conducted by scientists from the University of Queensland and published Tuesday (4) in the journal Nature Communications, used cell samples from 200 patients with the most different types of tumors and found that certain expressions of DNA are different between cancer cells and healthy cells.
In experiments in which the cells were dissolved in an aqueous solution and were also tested to determine their affinity for gold, Australian researchers observed that cells of all types of cancer had the same behavior in these experiments.
Simple example
Thus scientists have found that with a simple blood sample it was possible to test the cells and determine in just ten minutes whether such a change in DNA indicated the presence of cancer cells in the body. According to the researchers, the accuracy of the test was 89%, that is to say that it detected the presence of cancer cells in 89 out of 100 cases.
Scientists note, however, that even though the test is able to diagnose any cancer cell, it does not indicate the type of tumor or its severity.
