RIO – A large-scale fire killed 10 people in the Flamengo – Urubu Nest training center – in Vargem Grande, in western Rio, on Friday morning. The information was confirmed by the fire department. Three people were injured – one of them would be in serious condition – and were taken to the Lourenço Jorge Municipal Hospital, in Barra da Tijuca, also in the western zone. According to Lt. Col. Douglas Henaut firefighters, the fire was in the housing where the players were sleeping.
The wounded were identified as Cauã Emanoel Gomes Nuines, 14, from Fortaleza and resident in Rio for three years. Francisco Diogo Bento Alves and Jonathan Cruz Ventura – the ages have not been informed.

The fire-damaged homes are in the old part of the CT, which has been recently renovated. The accommodation was going to be disabled and demolished by the club.
Firefighters remain on the scene. The information is that the fire is already controlled, and the firefighters would be in a next day. We do not know yet why the fire started.
The center is used by football teams and basic categories
The nest of Urubu – as it is known as the George Helal Training Center – was built in 2014 and is used by the Flamengo professional football team and categories. The venue is located in an area located in Vargem Grande and includes a professional module, two courses, a training ground for goalkeepers and accommodation, among other structures.
In 2018, the new professional module was inaugurated – the previous structure was left for the basic categories. For professional football, a new module has been made available, with new housing, a water park, a gym and a football field (the fifth).
The headquarters of Gávea hit by the storm
On Wednesday night, the headquarters of Flamengo in Gávea was hit by the storm and suffered a series of destructions. Without light, the site is closed and activities suspended on Thursday for on-site evaluation.
Trees and branches fell near the pool and outside in some club entrances. The force of the wind and rain tore off some of the root, damaging even access on foot and cars to the inside of the seat.
