The United States organized for the first time in 2019 on Wednesday (30) a man convicted of the murder of a police officer 30 years ago during an attempted robbery.
Robert Mitchell Jennings, 61, shot Elston Howard in an adult bookstore on July 19, 1988, according to a court decision and the local media.
The Supreme Court, which could appeal the sentence at the last minute, dismissed the claim and Jennings was executed by lethal injection in a Huntsville Texas jail shortly after 22:00 (Brasilia time).
Howard, 24, arrested a bookstore manager for illegally posting badgraphic movies when Jennings, who had just raided an adult movie theater, entered.
Jennings goes to Howard's house and shoots him twice. After the police officer collapsed, Jennings fired again before escaping to his vehicle, where he told an accomplice that he had been thrown to a security guard.
The accused has made several appeals since his conviction in 1989, and his supporters have highlighted his difficult education and intellectual limitations in his leniency applications.
This week, a court dismissed his last appeal, which focused on deficiencies in his legal defense in previous cases.
The United States organized 25 executions in 2018, including 13 in the state of Texas alone.
