The number of deaths due to Influenza virus infection in Minas Gerais has almost doubled in 2018. With 98 deaths, compared to the 2017 index, where there were 50 deaths, the growth was 96%. The data was published in the Epidemiological Bulletin published Thursday by the State Secretariat of Minas Gerais (SES-MG) [3].
Deaths correspond to cases in which influenza infection has evolved to severe acute respiratory syndrome). Influenza A (H1N1) pdm09 and Influenza A not subtyped, with 37 occurrences each.
According to the bulletin, the virus that causes influenza has several subtypes and among the contaminations that resulted in death, cases of influenza SARS have a median age of 53, with cases in the 0 at 96 years old. With regard to the geographical distribution of occurrences, Belo Horizonte is the commune with the highest number of cases, followed by Uberlândia in the Triângulo Mineiro; Pouso Alegre and Varginha, south of Minas Gerais.

Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome
The report also identifies other cases that resulted in severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS). Of the notifications, SES received 3054 suspected cases of SARS, of which 1664 were confirmed. Of the cases, 418 people died of the disease, which corresponds to 25% of the confirmed cases.
