The ILO further states that Brazil ratified an international convention in 2004 to ensure safety and health in mining activities nine years after the approval of the instrument.
In a statement, ILO Director General Guy Ryder said that about 300 people were still missing in Brumadinho: "This tragedy sadly recalls the crucial importance of a system ensuring safety and health of workers. " the protection of their communities "
