According to the HIV / AIDS Epidemiological Bulletin published Saturday (1) by the Ministry of Health, Pará is the fourth state with the highest rate of AIDS cases. There are about 1961 cases, which corresponds to more than five notifications a day. The state is behind only São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Minas Gerais, and Belém is one of the three highest detection rates in the country.
Still according to published data, although high, the number of AIDS detections in the state in 2017 is lower than that of 2014 and interrupts five consecutive years of rise. Between 2016 and 2017, the detections of the syndrome in the state dropped by 13.7% or less of 312 cases.
During the same period, the detection rate of AIDS has increased from 27.4 to 23.6 per hundred thousand inhabitants since 2012. This population rate has allowed Pará to rank eighth among more affected country. The survey also shows that the state is in the group of 17 federative units (UF) with an increase in the rate of detection of AIDS between 2007 and 2017.
Among the capitals, Belém has the third highest detection rate in the country. The bulletin indicates that out of 100,000 adults, 51 were infected with the virus in 2017. The AIDS mortality rate has increased by 50% in that state. The rate rose from 5.2 in 2007 to 7.8 deaths per 100 000 inhabitants in 2017. In absolute numbers, the increase in Pará has reached 81% during this decade.
