Even with pessimistic views on the future of sports cars, automakers are finding new creative ways to further increase the power of their cars. After the Dodge Challenger became the Demon with 852 hp, the new Ford Shebly GT500, the prepared version of the Mustang, now comes with more than 700 hp.
The first GT500 since the Mustang has abandoned the rear axle hard is still mysterious, despite its debut at the Auto Show's Detroit, Monday. Ford has only confirmed that it would have a supercharged 5.2 V8 engine, a dual-clutch transmission and 7-speed, but the manufacturer does not say how powerful it is. That's because she says she's still working with the engine, so they have not set the final power yet. The same goes for the couple. Rumors say that it will be about 750 hp and 96 kgfm of torque. Ford promises that the new Shelby will travel the quarter mile in less than 11 seconds while the acceleration up to 100 km / h should be less than 4 seconds.
What we know about this motorization is that the project was not simple. Ford engineers overturned the supercharged 5.2 and managed to place the intercooler between the rows of cylinders to reduce the center of gravity. The V8 with compressor includes aluminum heads, forged connecting rods and an active baffle chuck that help keep the engine lubricated during the strongest turns. And he still has a very nervous sound, which you can check in the video below.

The same goes for the dual-clutch and 7-speed transmission. The new box manufactured by Tremec is the only option available. Why not a manual? The answer is simple and predictable, so much so that it is the same thing that drove Ferrari and Lamborghini to abandon manual exchanges: the ATM is faster. According to Ford, the Tremec transmission can change gears in just 100 milliseconds!
The new brakes, equipped with the largest discs ever used in an American coupe, complete agility in acceleration. The GT500 uses 16.5-inch discs that look more like manholes than a brake with six-piston Brembo calipers. Ford claims that these brakes are 20% larger than the GT350s and are why the GT500 uses standard 20 rims.
The suspension has received magnetic dampers and a new geometry, while Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 is standard. Ford still offers two optional packages for the GT500. The first, simpler, is called handling set and adds an adjustable stabilizer bar and a Gurney flap on the rear fender. The second is a lot more aggressive, called the carbon fiber handling set, and rejects the 20-inch wheels to create a new carbon fiber wheel style that dramatically reduces weight by using 21.5-inch wheels at the same time. # 39; s back. by a special compound manufactured by Michelin. It always has a huge rear spoiler adjustable carbon fiber. Finally, the package always makes the car lose to the back seat.
Whichever formula you choose, the GT500 looks like a monster. Designers have gone crazy with wheelchairs to accommodate 20-inch wheels, while the front features twice as much air as the GT350's air intakes. The front spoiler completes the aggressive diffuser and the rear spoiler. What we love most is the removable aluminum tray under the hood: it keeps the engine dry in the rain.
The question now is how cool it will be to drive the Ford Shelby GT500. Unfortunately, Ford says that the final power will not be released until the 2nd half, so it looks like we will not have a chance to guide you before that. We hope to learn more about the most powerful version of Mustang in the months to come.
