The new minister joined the labor judiciary in 2001, in a vacant position for the Brazilian Bar Association (OAB). He retired in 2012. He was replaced by Judge Sércio Peçanha, appointed by Dilma Rousseff.
His name appears as a consultant to the traditional law firm Sergio Bermuda, founded in 1969, with offices in Brasília, Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. Among the 15 specialties of the office, quoted on its website, does not appear the law on work. His clients include companies such as Vale, Bradesco and Odebrecht
