Three other residents of El Dorado, in the interior of São Paulo, died of yellow fever. The city already adds six deaths and four people hospitalized with the disease. Authorities met Monday morning in Pariquera-Açú, a nearby town, to discuss new strategies for fighting yellow fever.
According to Eldorado City Hall, the city recorded two deaths on Saturday (19) and a Sunday (20), including two from the same family. All the people who died in the city, because of the disease, lived in the rural area, Quilombo Sapatu.
Three residents of Eldorado are hospitalized at the Hospital das Clínicas de São Paulo. The exams have already confirmed that they had yellow fever. A person, hospitalized in the same hospital, is under surveillance for suspicion of illness. There was also confirmation in a patient with the disease who had already received treatment and was released after improvement.
The towns of the Ribeira Valley also recorded the death of several monkeys in the rural area of the city. However, it was not possible to identify if the animals had yellow fever because of the decomposition of the bodies.
The Municipal Department of Health and Sanitary and Epidemiological Surveillance of Eldorado directs all municipalities not yet immunized to search for the nearest health posts. The vaccine must be applied ten days in advance for travel to risk areas.
Dosages are available in health facilities and are indicated for people from nine months of age. Patients with HIV + or transplanted women who badfeed their children up to the age of six months and who are immunocompromised as patients undergoing chemotherapy, radiotherapy or under high dose corticosteroids such as lupus and arthritis rheumatoid should consult their doctor indication of the vaccine.
Doctors who prevent high fever, discomfort, body aches, nausea, and vomiting for two or three days should seek a medical facility. Improvement may occur, but symptoms may come back later with more intensity.
