The fire services confirmed that it was possible to break the B6 dam in Brumadinho, in the Belo Horizonte metropolitan area, on Sunday (27).
Firemen's spokesman, Lieutenant Pedro Aihara, said the siren was fired early in the morning to alert the population. "At about 5.30 am, there was activation [da sirene] indicating a possibility of imminent risk [de rompimento] The dam envisages water and the pumping is done to empty it and make it safe", he declares.
The communities of Córrego Feijão and Tejuco are being evacuated and people are taken to the heights of the community. These points will not be affected in case of a new break.
Even with the pumping of the current dam, failure is not ruled out. "The planes are ready, in case you need to take off with the teams to reach higher points," he concluded.
