The final badessment of the civil defense of Piracicaba (SP) indicates that the storm that hit the city on the night of Wednesday (23) caused the fall of 140 trees and branches. There were flood spots in the streets and avenues, as well as blackouts and lack of water in some neighborhoods.
The final report of the organ was made public Thursday afternoon (24). Previously, the city had counted more than 70 tree falls. According to the town hall, the main roads have been vacated, but some areas are still hampered. "The material removal work is expected to continue until the middle of next week."
The most affected neighborhoods are Nova Piracicaba, Jardim Monumento, Centro, Jardim Elite, Jaraguá, Vila Independência, Jardim Europa and Santa Teresinha.
The Civil Defense estimates that it rained the equivalent of 54 millimeters and that winds reached 48 kilometers at about 9:30 pm.
A house in Rua do Rosário was torn several times during the storm. Another property in the same street was with the roof almost blown away by the wind, according to the testimony of the resident of the property.
On Juscelino Avenue Kubitschek, tree branches fell to a bus stop and some of the telephone wiring was also taken.
Already in the district of Santa Terezinha, the strength of the wind was such that the trees were uprooted with the root. Also in the neighborhood, traffic in Oliviero Street was also blocked because of another tree that fell in the middle of the road.
Residents of at least 51 districts of Piracicaba (SP) could face water supply problems Thursday after the storm that hit the city.
The rain caused interruptions in the power supply of the Capim Fino water treatment plant and the water collection system of the Piracicaba River. The inhabitants can thus run out of water and low pressure.
