Sputnik Brazil – US Secretary of Defense James Mattis will retire in two months and his successor will be announced soon, said President Donald Trump.
"General Jim Mattis will retire, with distinction, at the end of February, after serving as Secretary of Defense for two years," Trump wrote on his Twitter account.
"How do you have the right to have a defense secretary whose point of view are better aligned with yours," Mattis writes in his resignation letter, "I believe it is just that I leave my post ".
Mattis stated that one of his main beliefs was "that our strength as a nation is intrinsically linked to the strength of our unique and comprehensive system of partnerships."
