There are more cancers in Madeira, but mortality has decreased

Data from the Regional Secretariat for Health concern about 1,300 new cases of cancer in 2017, with a mortality rate of 22%, a percentage lower than that of the continent and the Azores. The new cases mainly concern bad, prostate, colorectal, lung, female and skin cancers.

This Regional Secretary of Health, Pedro Ramos, reported this afternoon of World Cancer Day to the Cancer League.

Since "there are more and more cancers, but the mortality is lower and the survival higher," said the secretary, "we can, individually and collectively, continue to contribute to an awareness of what good habits should be ", avoiding risk factors that can lead to any type of cancer.

On World Cancer Day, a global campaign is launched which aims to make society aware of changing behaviors. "I am and I am" is the name of the initiative, a three year campaign that advocates for a world without cancer because "the time to act, it is now".

"This is a campaign to raise awareness of society as a whole so that we can get hold of this awareness and promote health and disease prevention because we all have this responsibility. "

To be aware of, prevent and reduce risks, equal access to treatment, alert to financial, economic, mental and emotional impacts, reduce training gaps and work in teams.
