US President Donald Trump announced Friday that he had chosen Mick Mulvaney as Acting White House leader, replacing John Kelly. He will be in office until the end of the year.

"Mick Mulvaney, the White House's budget director, will be appointed acting leader of the White House, replacing Gen. John Kelly, who served our country with distinction," said Trump.

…. I am looking forward to working with him in his new duties as we continue to MAKE AMERICA STILL GREAT! John will remain until the end of the year. This is a GREAT PATRIOT and I want to thank him personally for his services!

December 14, 2018

Mulvaney served as Director of the White House Budget Office since February 2017. Previously, between 2011 and 2016, he was a member of Congress for South Carolina and was one of the founders of the Freedom Caucus, an ultraconservative caucus.

The name of the former congressman made headlines last November when Trump appointed him to head the Consumer Finance Protection Bureau (CFPB), though Leandra English stated that he would remain in office.

The case was closed by a court and the court ruled in favor of Mulvaney, who was ahead of CFBP, an agency created as a result of the financial reform of former President Barack Obama (2009-2017).

On December 8, the president announced Kelly's departure. Since then, Trump initially offered Nick Ayers, Mike Pence, the vice president's chief of staff, but he declined.

This Friday, former New Jersey governor Chris Christie declined the offer, stating that it would not be a good time for him and his family.
