United States Calls for United Nations Security Council Meeting on Venezuela | World

The meeting was called for Saturday. Diplomats said that US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo should attend the meeting.

On Wednesday (23), after opposition candidate Juan Guaidó declared himself interim president, Venezuela broke off diplomatic relations with the United States and ordered his US officials to leave the country within 72 hours. The US authorities did not, however, recognize Maduro's statement. Pompeo said that he did not believe that the Chavez government "has the legal authority to sever relations" with the United States.

On Thursday, the Venezuelan Armed Forces (FANB), considered the main supporter of Nicolás Maduro, denounced Guaidó's self-proclamation as a "coup d'état" and declared that the Chavan leader was the "legitimate president".

The statement was made by the Minister of Defense, Vladimir Padrino, next to the Venezuelan military summit. Godfather said that the United States and other countries are waging an economic war against Venezuela.
