The United States announced Wednesday (19) the total withdrawal of US forces in Syria. According to the White House, this decision is linked to the reconquest of territories formerly occupied by the terrorist group "Islamic State".
The ruling is in line with one of the proposals of President Donald Trump, who opposes the maintenance of the armed forces in Syria. Trump tweeted shortly after the publication of the information in the US press:
"We defeated the Islamic State in Syria, my only reason for being in the Trump government," said the American president.
We defeated ISIS in Syria, my only reason for being there during the Trump presidency.
According to Reuters, the United States must put between 60 and 100 days to complete the withdrawal of the army. However, the first trips must begin "in the next 24 hours," said a US official.
In a statement, the White House said the withdrawal "does not mean the end" of the battles against the group. The US government prefers to treat the decision as a "new phase of the campaign".
"We started sending American soldiers home as we moved on to the next phase of this campaign," said White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders.

The United States reportedly has about 2,000 soldiers in Syria under the pretext of fight against the IE. The US military has been active in the region since 2014 – a year of heightened tensions in the Syrian civil war.
This measure could be considered favorable to the regime of Bashar al-Assad, Syrian President of the United States and ally of Russia and Iran. The Russian government even said Wednesday that the presence of US forces in Syria has become a "dangerous obstacle" to peace in the region.
However, in April, the United States conditioned the troop exit to three warrants – only one of which related to the Islamic State. Nikki Haley, then United States Ambbadador to the UN, said the following:
- The United States is certain that chemical weapons are not used
- The Islamic State, a radical Sunni group, is defeated. have a good point of view on what exactly does Iran do.
The United States has not published any statement on the other two points.
