The death of several monkeys and two men suspected of yellow fever in Eldorado mobilized the health teams of the Ribeira Valley, an area located in the interior of São Paulo. Representatives of the State Department of Health and 15 municipalities met Tuesday morning (15) in a register to discuss preventive measures, immunization coverage reaching only 66% of the population. The State Department of Health announced that it was carrying out a "scanning operation" to immunize as many people as possible in the Ribeira Valley.
According to the health surveillance of Eldorado, more than 20 monkeys were found recently killed in the city. Health surveillance in Iporanga, a neighboring city, also issued a statement on social networks that reports of monkey deaths in Nhungara and Jurumirim neighborhoods.
In addition, two men died in Eldorado. They lived in Quilombo Sapatu, in the countryside. Both patients had the same symptoms and, after being treated in the municipal health network, were admitted to Dr. Leopoldo Bevilacqua Regional Hospital (HRLB) of Pariquera-Açu. The clinical badessment indicates that both people had yellow fever, but only a review badessed by the Adolfo Lutz Institute in São Paulo could reveal if they even had the disease.
According to the Eldorado Health Watch, six other people were referred to the same hospital for suspicion of the disease. There are also suspect cases in Iporanga and Registro.
