Operator Sebastião Gomes explained how he managed to escape the mud wave after the breakup of the Brumadinho dam in Minas Gerais on 25 January. One of his colleagues and he appear in a video ( see below ), which shows the mud propagating in the area of the mine. They were both in a car.
In the newspaper Estado de Minas the worker was moved by the way he managed to escape the residue wave . Gomes said that he and his colleague went from one place to another without knowing where to go.
The operator said that at that time, he thought that everything was lost and that he was delivering "in the hands of God". He and his colleague prayed a prayer from the Lord while mud was pbading.
The operator and the other worker were able to rescue a colleague who was in a tractor partially buried by residue. Gomes also recognized a truck driven by another employee, who also appears on the images.
The images indicate that the mud and tailings speed was 114 km / h. The wave touched a small pond in just 13 seconds, traveling a distance of 413 meters inside the premises of the company.
A second video, obtained by TV Globo shows the moment when the dike breaks up and an avalanche of mud remains reaches all that awaits them.
