"We talked about the danger," says the brother of a dead man struck by lightning on the beach of Copacabana

By the time he was struck by lightning in Copacabana, in the southern area of ​​Rio, Brazilian pilot Daniel Vasco de Oliveira, 35, was in the sand near his wife, twin brother and of his friends. The episode during the storm that punished the city in the afternoon of Friday. Daniel was taken away by fire brigades to the Miguel Couto Municipal Hospital in Gávea, also in the southern zone, but died on his arrival.

– We were in a good mood to enjoy the beach. His wife had just come out of the water, it was around 17:30 and it was raining very hard. He was already in the sand. There were about ten people nearby, had already been emptied. But when we realize lightning, we speak "look what danger". And suddenly, we heard the thunder. My brother was hit and his wife, who was the closest, thrown to the ground – tells Daniel Vasco de Oliveira, Daniel's twin brother.

– I am a nurse and at that time I went to check the pulse, but I already knew that he was dead – details Rafael, who visited Saturday morning at the Instituto Medico Legal (IML) to identify and release Daniel's body.

On vacation in Rio since the 21st, the victim and all the others came from Brasilia – the return was scheduled for next Monday. They were staying in an apartment in Avenida Atlantica, Copacabana

According to Rafael, Daniel's wife suffered no injuries and is fine. He says that Daniel does not leave children.

– I asked a friend to phone and let me know because I did not know the conditions – says Rafael.

As Daniel only had his driver's license, the IML expects a photo and a digital document to release the body, which will be taken to Brasilia, where he will be veiled and buried.
