Two new cases of yellow fever were confirmed Thursday in Paraná (7). They were registered in Adrianópolis, a city bordering Sao Paulo, but one of the municipalities forming part of the metropolitan area of Curitiba is administratively.
A patient with the disease presents with a milder form of fever and is hospitalized in Adrianópolis. The other was taken to the capital of São Paulo for treatment.

This is the third case of yellow fever recorded this year in Paraná. The first of them was confirmed at the end of January to Antonina. The 21-year-old man was released and hospitalized at the regional hospital of the coast, in Paranaguá.
According to the state government, 38 cases of the disease have been reported this year, but 25 of them have already been eliminated by laboratory tests. The other cases are still being badyzed.
The Department of Health indicated that new cases were already expected in Paraná due to the proximity of the affected areas to São Paulo, near the state border. As a result, he distributed additional batches of the vaccine in the state's 22 regional health centers in 399 municipalities.
The first outbreak of the disease appeared in the region of Antonina, where three monkeys were found dead and infected with yellow fever. It is here too that the first human case was recorded in 2019. Until then, the city government has decreed state of emergency in public health on Wednesday (6).
Where to vaccinate in Curitiba
Curitiba prefecture intensified the supply of yellow fever vaccine. It is offered in 110 health posts in the city and since early February, it is also available on Saturdays. Until then, vaccination only took place from Monday to Friday.
According to the Municipal Department of Health (SMS), the increase in supply was a response to the strong demand for vaccination in late January. Nearly half of the whole month's doses were applied in the last four days of January.

Who Should Take
The yellow fever vaccine is indicated for people aged 9 months to 59 years, from 11 months to 29 days. People over 60, pregnant and lactating must submit a medical prescription to be vaccinated. Whoever took the vaccine does not need to repeat the dose
Symptoms and Transmission
The main symptom of the disease is the sudden onset of fever. Headache, nausea, vomiting, joint pain, abdominal pain, lower back pain, jaundice or bleeding are also badociated.
The disease is transmitted by mosquito bites of the genera Haemagogus and Sabethes (wild yellow fever). Aedes aegypti (urban yellow fever), carrier of the virus. Monkeys do not transmit the disease and are infected in the same way as humans. Animals are sentinels and can indicate the presence of the disease.
