Take colon cancer seriously; it is the second most common cancer in women and the third most common in men. If you are at average risk, plan your first colonoscopy at age 50, then test every 10 years. People at high risk should look at previous screenings. The NCI reports that colonoscopies reduce the number of deaths from colon cancer by 60% to 70%.
