screenings: PSA test and digital rectal examination
The second leading cancer in men, prostate cancer accounted for 15.5% of new cases last year. Two screenings can detect the disease at an early stage, says the ACS. A PSA blood test can look for a high rate of specific prostate antigen – a substance made in the prostate. The other screening is a digital rectal exam, where a doctor feels that the prostate is checking for the presence of tumors. The CSA recommends that this last test be done every year.
